Overview.

The current system of play in Colombia was introduced in 1999, though many systems have been used over the years (the 1996-97 season actually lasted 18 months due to the strange system used) . The current system is by no means popular with coaches, players or clubs and has received criticism for being unfair (America de Cali topped the league for four consecutive stages over two seasons yet failed to win a trophy on any occasion) and overly complex. Taking a closer look at the league suggests otherwise as it’s certainly no more complex than most other South American leagues.

 

Chile

Tiers – Primera División & Primera B.

Other Competitions – None.

Overview.

Chilean football may not be as well-known throughout the world as that of Brazil and Argentina, but their leagues have a reasonably good record of producing talent and if you can nurture and hold onto this talent there’s no reason why you should fail to dominate on a domestic, or even continental, basis.

 

Peru

Tiers – Primera División.

Cup Competitions – None.

Other Competitions – None.

Overview.

The Peruvian league lacks some of the glamour and prestige of its South American neighbours but that’s not to say that it’s not an enjoyable league to play in, especially as for the most part the clubs are relatively evenly matched.

 

Argentina

Tiers – Primera División & Primera B Nacional

Cup Competitions – None.

Other Competitions – None.

Overview.

The Argentinian Football League is consistently ranked among the top-ten leagues in the world according to the International Federation of Football History and Statistics and many of Argentina’s top players are considered to be among the world’s best and can be found playing in many of Europe’s top divisions.

 

Uruguay

Tiers – Primera División & Segunda División.

Cup Competitions – None.

Other Competitions – Liguilla.

Overview.

Considered by many to be third most important league in South America, Uruguay lacks some of the glamour of football in Brazil and Argentina, but the standard of football isn’t too far behind (at least in Football Manager). Generally speaking the players may be a little less technically gifted than the other two nations mentioned but this is compensated by a slightly more athletic player (better physical attributes).
